Surviving Thanksgiving

Novemember 19, 2018

Show Notes:

Happy Thanksgiving! This week we look at some “thanksgiving survival guides” to help you navigate being home at the holidays. Politics is usually the biggest issue at family gatherings and, for some reason, thanksgiving tends to be the holiday where it all comes to a head (probably because it’s the soonest one after any major elections). We look at some of the tips from the survival guides to handle having a dinner with family members that might not share your views. Some of the tips tell you not to discuss politics at all, and if you do, to have a special designated zone in the house to discuss politics. Others tell you to bring it up and shame your family members and if this doesn’t go as planned they give you an SOS number to call. Some of the tips also tell you to make sure you tell your family about the real meaning of thanksgiving. Some ways to do this is by making sure when saying grace to give thanks to the people whose land you’re really on. You can even print out placemats that tell of the destruction of the Native American tribes (lovely visuals during dinner). Finally we read some tips for what to do if you are home alone on thanksgiving, like study up and watch the football games so you might have a chance of being invited to someones party next year.
